Kristine Beuret,
Director and the founder of Social Research Associates, has a
special interest in the ways social scientists can work with
planners, engineers and transport providers to develop policies
which are also understandable, acceptable and user-friendly to
the public. She has expertise in the part played by public
perceptions in influencing decisions about the use of transport
systems. Kristine's previous experience includes working for the
World Bank, the American Senate, the Department of Transport and
various universities, and in recent years she has advised the
House of Commons Transport Committee. She is a member of the
Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Taxi Group, the Logistics
Directors Forum and also serves on the management committee of
the Pedestrians Association. Kris is also interested in improving
the standard of transport education and is the Chief Examiner for
the Institute of Logistics and Transport. Kris has also written
widely on social aspects of transport, made many TV and radio
appearances and has authored a number of books - on Marketing in
Local Government and on Transport and Public Consultation.

has 23 years experience in government service, firstly in the
highways field. He took early retirement in March 1997 from the
post of Head of Engineering Policy Division in the Highways
Agency. Before that he worked with contractors, Tarmac and R M
Douglas, respectively on site and in the design office,
consultants Sir Owen Williams on the RE's staff for the M6
Midland Links Motorways and in the bridge design office at the

worked for BAA for 30 years, covering all aspects of airport and

· Represents BT at the Intelligent Transport Society
for the UK (ITS UK), where he is currently serving a second term
as Technical Director.
· Chaired the session on Public Private Collaboration
at the Smart Moving International Conference, Birmingham 7th

· Completed a short report on the potential for 3G
mobile radio to support Travel & Transport Information
services (TTI) for the European Union within the Atlantic

· Provision of satellite communications systems for BT
including specification, bid adjudication, design review, factory
+ commissioning + acceptance testing for Madley Earth Stations.
· Design, development, field trialing and migration
into production of audio and video conference systems.
· Led work on mobile data, including the development
of the TETRA standard, and exploration of the potential for BT to
launch a dedicated mobile data network.
· Project Manager for European DRIVE project CIDER.
Led BT's involvement in DRIVE project SOCRATES and PLEIADES,
QUARTET, & LLAMD in Framework 3.
· Served on the Transport Telematics Requirements
Board, setting the requirement for Framework 4, and subsequently
served as EU Expert in the evaluation of bids.
· Special assignments within BT:
o worked with CAP Gemini on development of
BT's Breakout strategy, developing a radical 10year business plan

o developed and installed an initial ISO9001
quality management system for BT's R&D organisation.
