Ann Frye is an independent consultant specialising in the transport needs of disabled and older people. As Head of the Mobility & Inclusion Unit at the Department for Transport, she developed and implemented a major programme of research, legislation and education, over 25 years, to promote the mobility of disabled and older people as public transport users, as motorists and as pedestrians. She also focussed on a range of other social policy issues in the transport field including social exclusion, crime and personal security and diversity.

Ann also works extensively at international level. She currently chairs several Working Groups and Committees on the needs of disabled and older people. She has also led, in recent years, Europe-wide projects under the auspices of the European Commission and the European Science Foundation to develop common standards and best practice.

Selected Achievements

• Developing, delivering and successfully implementing Disability Discrimination legislation in the transport field;
• Chairing  specialist international groups developing consensus and best practice and influencing legislation in aviation, rail and bus accessibility and other policy areas at European and wider international levels;
• Appointed Visiting Professor, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at University College London in 2006;
• Initiating the Mobility Roadshow, the world’s first motor show for disabled people;
• Delivering corporate responsibilities in race equality and other social policy areas.
